Antartic Cruise

Truly spectacular! Stunning! Just a couple of superlatives that spring immediately to mind when I write about the Antartic. The big swell of the South Atlantic is an experince in itself, and you will never forget seeing your first albatross gliding through the moutainous valleys of the impressive, if not a little scary, waves that appear often like sheer mountain faces! I have cruised the South Atlantic on the QE2 and also on a small cross-channel ferry, the St Edmonds... Give me the QE2 everytime! But I experienced a deep moment of poignant contemplation when I saw my first iceberg. It is a powerful memory because I remember the genuine awe I felt and the feeling surprised me - afterall, it is only a lump of ice. But it was hugely impressive, big and powerful and dangerous and at the same time a magnificant example of natural art.

The South Atlantic Ocean can be a raging tempest one day and as still and calm as a Buddhist temple the next...
